The cafe is located directly across Front Street from the Friday Harbor ferry landing. Description: Sure, lots of eating establishments in the San Juans offer rooms with a view, but only one offers you the view AND eggs that are scrambled in an espresso machine. Pretty much the first place you see when you enter Friday Harbor, the Front Street Cafe steams their eggs on the same machine on which it creates its array of espresso drinks. No oil, no margarine, and eggs that are guaranteed airy and light. They’re called Scrambles and choices include Veggie, Greek, Sausage, or Mexican, which is stuffed with black beans and sour cream. All come with a side of the cafe’s award-winning beer bread.
It’s not just the eggs that are air and light at the Front Street Cafe. High ceilings offer a feeling of spaciousness, and large windows—-some of which are stained glass—-look east toward the ferry dock and boat harbor. They offer lots of sun and opportunities galore for people watching. Inside, check out images from Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel handiwork transplanted from Rome to Friday Harbor. Framed Old World maps decorate the walls and a vintage bar from days of yore stands regally against a wall. Seating is also available outside. The moderately priced café serves soups and sandwiches for lunch as well as various seafood specials. Dinners, accompanied by live music, are served weekends only. If you’ve never been to the Front Street Cafe it’s possible that you walk through the door you may be struck by a feeling of deja vu. The scene from the movie, ''Free Willy 2'' was shot here. The cafe almost landed a spot in the film, ''Practical Magic'' also. Written By: Mike McQuaide Map In This Category
