Description:
This lively nautical-themed pub and restaurant is appropriately located at the harbor end of town. The Ale House pours a dozen handcrafted ales, lagers, and stouts brewed on-site at the adjacent San Juan Brewing Company. These brews are available on tap and bottled. On weekdays, the pub, with full bar, offers happy hour drinks and appetizers. If you’re wearing a San Juan Brewing Company hat, shirt, or boxer shorts (!), your pints will be served at happy hour prices any time, any day.

The extensive restaurant menu of Front Street Ale House requires four pages to list of all the offerings. Starting with appetizers, known here as "Oar D’oeuvres", the list includes traditional nacho platters, onion rings, hot wings, potstickers, clam strips, and calamari. The main menu begins with soups, chowders, chili, salads, and four types of stuffed baked potatoes. Sandwiches range from roast turkey to burgers: beef, chicken, or vegetarian with a variety of toppings. In addition, pizza, pasta, ribs, and fresh seafood is served. The British style pub food is quiet popular: Bangers and Mash (sausages and mashed potatoes), Bubble and Squeak (braised cabbage and mashed potatoes mixed together and grilled), and Shepherd’s Pie (mashed potato-topped pie of ground beef, onions, and garlic.) You’ll find most meal portions generous and reasonably priced.

The Front Street Ale House is a good choice for casual groups and family meals. The restaurant is separate from the pub and a kids’ menu is available, as well as non-alcoholic blended fruit drinks. Service is friendly and accommodating.

Local musicians often entertain here while actors and playwrights host occasional dinner theater in a "topside" banquet room. In winter, a raucous Trivia tournament (adults only) is hosted by the Ale House on Tuesday nights, with winning teams taking home prizes such as key chains and fifty pound sacks of onions. This hilarious game has become so popular that an additional Monday tournament has been added so that more can play. Drop-ins can sometimes be fitted into an existing team. But, again, Trivia is played during the winter season only.
