Description:
Popular with kayakers and sport fishermen, this county park was designed with the boater in mind. Located on the west side of San Juan Island, the park offers tent camping, RV and trailer spots as well as a boat launch.

The boat launch drops into waters of a small, sheltered cove cut into the cliffs of the shoreline. The lot behind the boat launch has ample space for backing trailer rigs down the ramp, as well as several lots for trailer parking. A short distance away on the other side of the cliff lays a gravel beach, which tends to be frequented by the kayakers that use the park. This beach is accessible only by trail and lacks the chaos of the boat launch at peak summer times.

Atop the cliff between the beaches lies the day use picnic area and overnight camping spots. Although the spaces are primarily slots for recreational vehicles and trailers, there are still some decent tent sites. There are only 20 sites in the park as well as one biker/hiker spot. The sweet spot is number 18, completely by itself in a separate part of the park right on the beach. The price is slightly higher, but it’s well worth it for the additional privacy, space and chance to fall asleep to the sounds of the waves lapping on the beach.

The day-use area is a wide field with a sweeping view of the sound and islands. In the summer, local Orca pods can be seen passing by the park at all times of the day. Several small trails lead over the bluff and down to the rocks below; exceptional water clarity can make it quite easy to spot marine animals from the cliff sides.
