Description:
As its name implies, Panacea B&B promises to remedy all ills. Its medicine? Relaxation with a capital R. Double Jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces, gardens for strolling, and a veranda for watching the world go by are just a few of the amenities that provide the cure for whatever ails you.

Located in downtown Friday Harbor across from the middle school, the craftsman-style home was built in 1907 by Peter Kirk. It was the summer home of the well-known industrialist who eventually had a town—Kirkland—named after him.

Each of the Panacea's four rooms boasts a theme. The Veranda Room, not surprisingly, offers a private entrance onto a wraparound porch overlooking a peaceful pond and gazebo (coming in April 2001). Inside, Native American artifacts and paintings accentuate the original exposed woodwork. A king-size bed entices one to dreamland.

The light and airy Trellis Room boasts a floral motif in the style of English Country. The walls are framed with antique linen and the room's private entrance opens to the gardens urging you and that special someone to walk hand-in-hand. The lower priced, but no less romantic, Garden Room and the Arbor Room complete Panacea's room offerings.

As for the breakfast part of Bed & Breakfast, Panacea doesn't skimp here either. Guests begin the new day with a full gourmet meal from a rotating menu that includes crab quiche, chocolate bread pudding, apple strudel and lots more. Always offered is the Panacea granola, which took first place in the granola category in the 2000 San Juan County Fair. For an additional charge, guests can enjoy a champagne breakfast in bed.

And if breakfast in bed isn't the most effective Panacea to remedy absolutely all ills, what else is?
