Description:
There are many resorts and B&B’s spread across the beautiful San Juans, but few can match the cozy charm of the Lieber Haven Resort. Run by a delightful couple, Dave and Kittie Baxter, the resort sits in the southeast corner of Orcas Island on Obstruction Pass Road. There are no TV’s and fancy fixtures in the 5 cottages and 6 other rooms, but you will have a view that "is to die for" overlooking Rosario Strait and its driftwood-strewn pebble beach. The beachfront cottages can best be described as "rustic," just great for families. The more private rooms up the outside circular staircase are typical B&B quality rooms for couples, each with a unique nautical decor.

As you sign in, you might meet Dave who’ll remind you of an old, salty tugboat captain. This is no coincidence as Dave does, indeed have his own tugboat, "The Kittie B." The Baxters delight in taking their guests out on the tugboat, or on several other unique boats they own.

After touring the resort and its many boats, and listening to Dave’s tales of sea stories that will keep you enthralled for hours, you might want to ask Kittie about renting a one- or two-person kayak for a water experience you’ll remember for a long time. The sight of an eagle elegantly soaring above the water in the early morning mists is an image that will live with you forever. This is a moderately priced "family" resort, but a honeymooning couple will enjoy it also. Ending each day with a stroll and barbecue on the beach will cap off a truly great vacation.

Although the person who ran this place was friendly, it was probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, especially for $145/night! There was no A/C, no fan, and no breeze (the air's stagnant in the hotel's location). The bed was soft and very uncomfortable, the room was very small and cramped, and the water pressure was weak. I slept very poorly. The location was at the other end of the island from the ferry. No amenities whatsoever besides some watery coffee in the common room in the morning. If this wasn't one of the last available rooms on the island, I would've refused to stay there!

This place is run by very friendly folks but the accomodations are not very pleasant. Overall everything needs to be throughly cleaned and updated. Basic doesn't mean worn out and dirty. Waaaay overpriced for what you get. Keep looking.
