Follow the Horseshoe Highway all the way through Eastsound and take a right onto Olga Road. Ship Bay Inn is the cluster of yellow buildings on the right side of the road. Description: The Inn at Ship Bay is a restful, elegant retreat set above Ship Bay, about a 5-minute drive from the village of Eastsound. Owners Pat and Dave Andrews have converted the 130-year old Island farmhouse and barn to an inn that features a restaurant and bar, guest suites, and a large party area. Throughout the Inn, there is an ambience of ease and friendliness. At the Inn’s bar, locals and tourists chat easily about the Mariners game or the upcoming Solstice Parade, in which the Lawnmower Ladies show off their parade routine. Outside, red umbrellas shelter patio tables where guests can watch kayakers in Ship Bay, or eagles soaring above the Island. The Andrews have operated the dining room since the early 1990s, and the menu and service set a high standard for enjoying your dining experience. Recent additions include 11 waterfront units consistent with the décor of the rest of the Inn with relaxing shades of green, from a sage grey-green, to a creamy avocado yellow-green. In these suites, comfort and taste is expressed in clean, uncluttered furnishings, such as a high queen-sized bed with white down comforter and white floral quilt. Other tasteful touches: a floral loveseat, a checkered chair, an armoire with TV inside, and a fireplace for winter warmth. The windows open to let in fresh breezes from East Sound, and a small veranda provides clear views southward towards Ship Bay. Two Adirondack chairs await your viewing and musing pleasure. After a luxurious night of restful sleep, a breakfast tray delivers warm cinnamon buns, yogurt, juice, and fresh fruit to your room by 9 am. A selection of coffee and teas, bottled water and soda pop are yours to enjoy from the refrigerator, which even includes fresh cream for your coffee. This inn, just a short distance away from Eastsound, is both cosmopolitan in its amenities, and familial in its comforts. Breathe deep and enjoy. Written By: Margaret Doyle In This Category
