Description:
The Funhouse hasn't been open long but it has already established itself as an essential filament in the Orcas Island social fabric. Designed for children, infants through high school age, it has also entranced countless adults.

The concept, like the feel of the place itself, is loose but intelligent. The Funhouse features traditional teen favorites like foosball and pool, but also has a more cerebral scientific side represented by a planetarium, video production equipment and a recording studio, a thermal wall screen, state-of-the-art computers, and various brain teasers dedicated to optical illusions and other natural phenomena.

The Funhouse offers several comfortable lounge areas for conversation, board games, or even a session with a most effective foot massage machine. An indoor pitching cage is featured for the athletically inclined, and a flight simulator will be up and working by summer. Various areas cater to children of different ages and tastes. There’s even a faux steamship boiler room!

For sunny days, there’s a standard playground outside, and for rainy ones several video pods offer enough room for seclusion with five or six of your best friends. The video library is eclectic with something to suit every taste. The relaxed, safe atmosphere of The Funhouse has been as integral to its success as its many attractions. Employees are fun-loving adults, just big kids themselves in a lot of ways, but they maintain the rules that are prominently displayed.

The Funhouse has become the place for birthday parties for the under-10 set, and a series of creative programs (guitar classes, animation, etc.) and affordable activities has lured in the teenagers. The spirit of openness that characterizes The Funhouse extends to its admission policies as well. Family and seasonal rates are available and single-day admission fees are reasonable. If you can’t afford them the staff is open to making an exception.
