From the Orcas ferry landing, head north almost three miles until you come to the Deer Harbor/West Sound intersection. Turn left and drive several miles and look for the Deer Harbor Inn sign. Description: The Deer Harbor Inn has long been a choice spot for vacationers who enjoy the simple country-style rooms as well as its harbor views. Owned and operated for years by Craig and Pam Carpenter, the establishment's "down home" feeling shows in the decor as well as the meals. The Carpenters take great pride in making their guests feel comfortable, and it shows with many return visits.
There are four private cottages, some with water views. Decorated in the simple country style with log beds, quilts and down comforters, each cottage offers a fireplace, hot tub and TV. The eight rooms in the large lodge are decorated similarly to the cottages. The inn also boasts a large sitting room with a fireplace for those cool nights. The grounds are well cared for and it is a simple hike down to the water’s edge to watch a sunset or visit the marina. The inn's restaurant is one of the best on the island. Operated by the Carpenters' two sons, Ryan and Matt, it offers fresh Northwest fare and is a favorite of both tourists and locals. Food is served "family style." The ample salad is presented in a large bowl to compliment the large tureen of soup and the delicious loaf of whole grain bread. The fresh salmon is one of the favorites and the entire dinner experience is sure to highlight your stay at the inn. Written By: Tom Carroll In This Category
