Roche Harbor Resort And Marina

At the northwest corner of San Juan Island, Roche Harbor offers world-class accommodations at the spectacular Hotel de Haro.
The majestic Hotel de Haro at Roche Harbor Resort & Marina was built around a log bunkhouse in 1886 for the Roche Harbor Lime and Cement Company. The original logs used to build the bunkhouse can still be seen from inside the hotel. A major renovation on the hotel has never been undertaken in order to preserve the history, thus guests can experience the creaking, sloped floors and better imagine what the hotel was like long ago. John Wayne and President Theodore Roosevelt liked to stay at Hotel de Haro. One can even see proof in the form of Roosevelt’s 1907 signature in the lobby guest book.

The hotel’s grand balcony overlooks the water and formal rose gardens. The gardens are a popular place for weddings—approximately 100 weddings take place at the hotel each year-- and the resort offers a banquet room and chapel on site.

Hotel de Haro’s 16 classic hotel rooms (with a shared bathroom) are very reasonably priced. Guests can use the huge wood-trimmed claw-foot bathtub down the hall or a shower. Presidential, Bridal, or Harbor View rooms with private baths are also available. Nine cottages on the east shore, once used by families of the lime company, can also be rented.

Don’t be intimidated by the "private resort" signs on the way to Roche Harbor. It is a privately owned resort with restaurants, a marina, and shops that the public can enjoy. There is space for boats at the marina and a laundry and post office. It is a quick walk from the hotel to the marina on "the yellow brick road." The lime quarries and kilns can be viewed on a walk around the resort and trials lead up into the lime quarries. Though there are plenty of things to do at the resort, a shuttle runs every hour from Roche Harbor to Friday Harbor and stops at various parks along the way. Pets are not allowed.

From Friday Harbor, head 6 miles toward the northwest tip of the island via Roche Harbor Road. Turn right at the intersection with West Valley Road and continue about another mile to the intersection with Afterglow Drive. Head left and follow the road for about 1 mile to the resort.
