Review

The Orcas Center fulfills the role of little theater for the island, and a whole lot more. The center is the hub of Orcas society, a place where celebrations are held, issues resolved, and a good time had by all.
The Orcas Center fulfills the role of little theater for the island, and a whole lot more. The center is the hub of Orcas society, a place where celebrations are held, issues resolved, and a good time had by all.

The unique attributes of the Orcas environment and culture make it a very desirable home for those possessing an artistic temperament. It’s unusual for any Orcas Center production not to enjoy the touch of a director with experience in Hollywood, or on Broadway. As a result, Orcas Center productions are often much better than those of substantially larger theaters.

Well-known plays are regularly staged at the Orcas Center, and lesser known theatrical works appear somewhat less regularly. The Orcas Center offers a policy of openness that also translates into eagerly anticipated productions by the local high school and various community groups. Diverse musical events are also regularly featured. Island artists perform, and commercial artists are sometimes imported from Seattle and beyond. Local art is always on display in the lobby and organized exhibitions take place from time to time.

Besides the elegant theater, the Orcas Center also features a large multi-purpose room. This room is used for political meetings, elaborate dinners, and parties. The elegance of the Orcas Center does not keep its board from allowing the premises to be used for any number of activities devised by locals, including the occasional yard sale.

Even jaded urban theater lovers will fund much to enjoy in Orcas Center productions. These islands are filled with a dazzling array of unusual talents, and productions at the center are works of the heart as opposed to commercial enterprises. Locals with expertise guide even the high school productions, so if you feel like adding a little drama to your life, don’t miss out on the Orcas Center. Admission varies, but is always reasonable.
