The Place at Cayou Cove is a beautiful sprawling old home with two separate cottages: the Carriage House and the Gardener’s Cottage. Over the past three-plus decades, many island residents have lived or partied in the main house, as it was a boarding house until purchased by Valerie and Charles Binford in the late 1990s.

The Binfords have brought an air of comfort and unstinting personal service to this 1913 home. Their touches include fruit baskets and fresh flowers in every room, easy chairs and reading materials in the living room, wicker settees on the wide verandah, and spacious grounds and beach for mindless (or meditative) rambles. Or if you prefer, you can enjoy the privacy and comfort of your own getaway cottage, with fireplace, down bed linens, kitchen, phone and TV, and even fax and e-mail availability in the circa 1913 Carriage House. The Carriage House can sleep up to six people. The Gardener’s Cottage, new this year, is a romantic haven with a two-person shower and king-sized bed. The inn, with its three bedroom/baths, is open from June through September. The cottages are open from February through November.

The accommodations at The Place at Cayou Cove offer the relaxed and cozy feeling that you’ve escaped to your own beautiful country retreat. The Binfords rescued two large and loving dogs, CoCo and Bruno, who are welcoming and well-behaved as you ramble the house and grounds. The hosts are friendly, humorous, and knowledgeable with just the right amount of reserve. The beauty and peace of the old home prevails, from the chestnut trees to the four-poster beds, from Asian antiques and beautiful china to stained glass windows and stenciled wall designs. A complete breakfast is served in the morning, and you may enjoy a perfect dish of Eggs Benedict.

When you regretfully say goodbye, your every hope is that you’ll be returning soon.

Located in Deer Harbor, the Place at Cayou Cove is just past the turnoff to Channel Road. You follow Deer Harbor Road to Olympic Lodge Lane and take a right past the dark green dance hall. It's the large yellow home at the end of the lane.
